Top 3 for #NCBD 10/21/15

Here's the Top 3 picks catching our eye for New Comic Book Day this week:

Karnak #1 (Marvel Comics) $3.99
Writer: Warren Ellis; Artist: Gerardo Zaffino; Cover Art: David Aja

Synopsis: "My curse is that I see the flaw in all things. Systems. Philosophies. Structures. People. Everything. Never forget who I am. I am Karnak of the Inhumans." You may not know who Karnak is now, but you will when Warren Ellis (MOON KNIGHT, Planetary) and Gerardo Zaffino are done with you. Phil Coulson goes to Karnak to help with a SHIELD case with Inhuman implications and what he's going to find will terrify you.

Why We Are Excited: Warren Ellis doesn't do main stream superhero books that often, so when he does, it can't be missed! Sure, Ant-Man and Inhumans are also launching new #1's this week, plus Amazing Spider-Man and Iron Man's #2's are already getting released, but this is the Marvel book we are most excited about this week.

Sunflower #1 (451 Media) $3.99
Writers: Mark Mallouk, Andi Ewington; Artist: Lee Carter

Synopsis: Ten years ago CJ's husband and nine year-old daughter were murdered off a desert highway near the California/Arizona border. Since that day, CJ can feel only two things - paralyzing shame for not being with her family and quiet fury that the perpetrators were never found. CJ should have been there to defend her family. CJ should have been there to die with her family. And, in the decade since, she might as well have been dead. Until the day a letter arrives. There's no return address, only one word in the letter. It simply reads: Sunflower. CJ's daughter is alive. And now so is CJ. And she will stop at nothing to get her daughter back.

Why We Are Excited: The synopsis from this indy book sounds so Tarantino-esqe, we can't pass it up. Especially knowing it's only a 6-issue miniseries, so it won't be a story to drag it's feet. Hell hath no fury like a mother searching for her lost daughter!

He-Man & The Masters of the Universe HC Minicomic Collection (Dark Horse Comics) $29.99
Writers: Various; Artists: Various

Synopsis: The toy juggernaut Masters of the Universe and its subsequent action figure lines featured memorable pack-in minicomics that aided in playtime for children across the world. This oversized hardcover collection features sixty-eight US releases, including all minicomics from the eighties Masters of the Universe line, the eighties Princess of Power line, and the eighties and nineties He-Man line, plus an introduction to the minicomics in the current Masters of the Universe Classics toy line. Relive the illustrated adventures that fueled your imagination!

Why We Are Excited: If you grew up in the '80s, you had at least one He-Man action figure. And the minicomics that came with the figures helped to further fuel our love for both the character and the love of reading comics. Plus, catch early work by such industry greats as Bruce Timm, Mark Texeira, Tim Seeley, Robert Kirkman and more!
